CANWin E-Bulletin May 08

This electronic bulletin is our main way of informing CANWin’s contacts about forthcoming CANWin events, meetings and activities. It is emailed on the second Sunday of Feb, May, Aug. and Nov. We encourage readers to copy it for other people.

AFTER THEÂ REVISIONING IN MARCH
Climate action now with added motivation from three leaders who had prepared revisioning plans, thank you Rob Parker, David Tranter and Peter Lach-Newinsky
.
Rob believes in going for the jugular, in this case the Federal Government and associated bodies, and step one was to write a submission, on CANWin’s behalf, to address the Garnaut Climate Change review, Issues Paper 6 – Emissions Trading Scheme Discussion Paper.
David focused his attention on arranging regular quarterly meetings with high profile guest speakers, followed the next day by on site visits. Top guest speakers have now been selected for meetings right through until August 2009. (See events program)
Peter Lach-Newinsky has been joined by an enthusiastic team to work on a draft plan for a transition shire (or perhaps transition towns in the shire). Transition towns are already being established in the UK, Europe, USA and NZ and in Australia (Sunshine coast). By transition shire/town we mean one that is gradually changing so that much less energy and much smaller quantities of resources are used and the community is working at becoming self-reliant for the greatest possible number of its needs. A transition network needs to build strong connections and develop a supportive and co-operative relationship with the local council. With council elections due in September this is a good time to increase understanding and develop our transition shire/town plan. A Petition is being prepared and should be launched in June.
(A draft transition shire/town plan is currently being developed and will be available at www.canwin.org. The plan is a “work in progress†situation and community involvement and feed back are welcome.)
