Harmony Farm
The farm was developed as a permaculture property and grows a very large range of cool climate fruit and nut trees as well as seasonal vegetables and herbs.
The primary purpose of the property is to be an education epicentre where the local community can come and learn about:
- Permaculture
- Seed Saving
- Animal husbandry
- Chooks
- Growing fruit, nuts and vegetables in a cool climate.
- Sustainable building
- Sustainable farming
- Biodynamics
- And much much more.
The farm operates as a community venture. As is the case on most community farms the provision of reliable labour is always a challenge. To address this need the farm employs a farm manager for 3 days per week and runs working bees on the third Sunday of each month. The working bees tend to be fun social occasions where the “friends” of Harmony Farm come together to work and learn with each other. Working bees run from 9am until about 12:30pm followed by an educational activity that could range from how to preserve the harvest to the appropriate use of farm and garden implements.
The farm is overseen by a core committee made of eight very dedicated volunteers. The committee is charged with the planning of farm activities as well as coordinating infrastructure development and educational programs amongst many other activities.
