Climate Change Circles

Climate Change Circles is a program that assists people to bring about changes in their own lives, and develop critical thinking on climate change. It aims to: strengthen local community to act on the issue of climate change, and bring people together to adopt ‘low carbon’ ways of living

There is no area of environmental concern that is not impacted on by climate change – water, species loss, food production. Likewise there are many aspects of the way we live that will need to change to address climate change – how we travel, what we eat and where it is grown, how we work and spend our leisure time, what we do/don’t buy, how we vote, whether we are energy efficient or self-sufficient, how we invest…

The program involves groups of people (Climate Circles) meeting in their own community to challenge and support each other to change their way of living. This program consists of 6 weekly modules with teams meeting regularly to focus on issues of energy, water, food & biodiversity, transport, consumption and wellbeing – and at the end celebration.

Become a CANWin climate change agent – Following completion of a pilot program of 6 weekly meetings, participants can choose to go on and become a Climate Change Circle leader themselves, and would be offered support throughout their own group meetings.

As we build a more resilient and sustainable community, we will also build community itself – from my experience participants get to know others and continuing friendships develop as people share their concerns and their successes. Some teams continue meeting well after the program cycle is completed, and are involved in ongoing projects.

CANWin Climate Change Circles – a wonderful opportunity to:

  • turn your concern or despair about the prospect of climate change into positive action
  • look again at what is really of value in your life,
  • converse about things that really matter,
  • form new friendships,
  • gain long term personal benefits with continued commitment reducing eco-footprint
  • help to build a life sustaining community
  • become part of the solution to the climate crisis.
